Bob Hoover Returns To The 1999 National Championship Air RacesOne of the world's most respected pilots and former director of RARA, Bob Hoover, returns to NCAR for the 36th year flying his Shrike Aerocommander and performing his trademark 16-point hesitation roll. While flying at an altitude of 3,000 feet, Hoover turns off his engines, steers his plane into a loop and performs an eight point roll.Beginning his aviation career in 1940, Hoover was drafted in World War II where he flew 58 successful missions. After being shot down on his 59th mission, Hoover was captured by the Germans and held prisoner for 16 months. After his release, Hoover became a military test pilot.
